The Tina Project™

 

A comprehensive curriculum and community approach to addressing teen dating violence.

 

The Tina Project™ is named in honor of Tina Croucher* who at age 18 was murdered by her boyfriend on December 21, 1992.  Seventeen years later on December 28, 2009 Governor Ted Strickland signed into law Ohio House Bill 19. “The Tina Croucher Act” requires all schools in the state of Ohio to address dating violence prevention through education and policy.

What does House Bill 19 Mandate?

Requires each school district, community school, and STEM schools  to incorporate violence within a dating relationship into its policy prohibiting student harassment, intimidation, or bullying. 

Directs the State Board of Education to update its model policy  prohibiting student harassment, intimidation, or bullying to include dating violence.

Requires each school district to include dating violence prevention education for grades 7 to 12 within the district's health curriculum.

Requires each school district, community school, STEM school, and educational service center to provide training in dating violence prevention for certain middle and high school employees.
